Aloha Gatherings

Coordinating 'ohana feasts that turn schedules into stories.

Why Gatherings Matter

Just as waves at Ho'okipa teach us to ride together, a good community meal rides the chaos of busy lives. In my role coordinating tourism events on Maui, I’ve learned the true skill is weaving people—locals, visitors, office folks—into one 'ohana table.

Signature Fusion: Lomi Lomi Salmon Poke Bowl

Prep (serves 6)

  • 1 lb fresh ahi or salmon, cubed
  • 2 ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 1 small Maui sweet onion, thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup green onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp sea salt (Hawaiian)
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • ½ avocado, sliced
  • Steamed rice or quinoa base

Method & Aloha Notes

Massage salmon gently with salt 10 minutes. Rinse. Mix tomatoes, onion, ginger. Let rest 15 min so flavors dance. Fold in fish last—never rush the aloha. Serve over rice with avocado. Wave of umami meets the island breeze.

Failure mode: Over-salt and the 'ohana feels tense. Taste as you go.

Event Harmony Tip

When the schedule gets tight like a Friday night queue, drop the low-priority tasks. Protect the landing of the meal and the mood. Sing a verse of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” while plating—magic every time.
